Dr. P. Thiyagarajan is a seasoned physicist and academic leader with over 27 years of teaching and research experience across India and the Sultanate of Oman. He currently serves as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Physics at Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, where he also coordinates the Exam Cell and Accreditation & Ranking initiatives.

He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Presidency College, Chennai, with a specialisation in biomaterials and computational modelling. His academic foundation includes an M.Phil. and M.Sc. in Physics, both from Madras University-affiliated institutions. His research interests span biomaterials, carbon quantum dots (CQDs), density functional theory (DFT), and sustainable development technologies, with a strong focus on converting waste into wealth through green nanotechnology.

Dr. Thiyagarajan has taught a wide range of physics courses, including Solid State Physics, Renewable Energy, Nuclear Physics, Optics, Weather Forecasting, and Engineering Physics. He is known for his innovative teaching methods and curriculum development, having revised syllabi and lab manuals to align with emerging technologies and student needs. His leadership extends to faculty mentoring, NPTEL coordination, and strategic planning for academic excellence.

Dr. Thiyagarajan has actively contributed to interdisciplinary research, publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals and published book chapters. His recent works include DFT-based studies on hydroxyapatite composites and CQD applications in bioelectronics and energy storage. He has presented at multiple international conferences, including ICFCS, ICAEMES, and ICTSGS, and collaborates with researchers across institutions.

Dr. Thiyagarajan is actively involved in funded research projects, including EDII-TN Innovation Voucher Programme and Seed Money Project (VMRF-DU). He was recognized as NPTEL Enthusiast & Beginner – Recognised for completing 10+ short-term courses with Elite silver and topper position.
