The Department of English at our institution has a clear mission: to promote an inter-lingual approach to Literature, transcending language boundaries and regional barriers.
Our department emphasizes the importance of equipping students with diverse pedagogical practices relevant to multiple academic disciplines. Through rigorous training, we instill in them the skills necessary for effective oral and written communication of ideas. Moreover, we recognize language proficiency as a crucial tool for cognitive development in various contexts.
In line with our primary focus, we have structured comprehensive methodologies for teaching English as a foreign language, both in theory and practice. Our courses cover Language and Literature in English, encompassing historical, cultural, and socio-political aspects, as well as diverse genres. We explore British, European, Indian, and American Literature, along with new Literatures in English, incorporating translation theories and practices.
Our faculty members are highly qualified and competent, not only as educators but also as mentors guiding students toward excellence. They actively engage in continuous professional development by attending seminars and conferences to stay updated with the latest advancements in the field.
As a research-oriented department, we have full-time Ph.D. scholars conducting valuable research contributing to the scholarly discourse in English Literature. We encourage students to actively participate in seminars, conferences, and extracurricular activities, fostering a holistic learning experience beyond the confines of the classroom.

Dr. S. S. Saranya
Associate Professor & Head, Department of English
Dr. S. S. Saranya is an accomplished writer, poet, and academician with a strong passion for teaching and travelling. Her research interests revolve around children’s literature, fantasy, and science fiction, and she has presented numerous papers in national and international conferences, demonstrating her knowledge and expertise in these fields. She has also published papers in international journals of repute. She has given talks and lectures in various institutions. She is a member of Literary Scholars Society (LSS) and All India Federation of English Scholars and Teachers. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Dr. Saranya is also a published poet and author, with her works featured in anthologies. Her writing style is both creative and thought-provoking, showcasing her exceptional ability to connect with readers and convey her ideas in a powerful way. She has published a book entitled, “Spatial Dynamics in Literature and Culture” containing a collection of scholarly articles and has several books in the pipeline.
Dr. Saranya’s contributions to the academic community are not limited to her research and writing. She also serves as a reviewer for esteemed international journals such as the International Journal of Teacher Education and Professional Development (IJTEPD) and the International Journal of Game Based Learning (IJGBL). In recognition of her exceptional leadership skills and contributions to the field of education, she has been honoured with the “Visionary Leader of the Year” international award, a testament to her dedication and hard work. Her mission is to work forward for the betterment of the society changing one youth at a time.

PLO-A. Demonstrate a set of basic skills in literary communication and explication of literary practices and process with clarity.
PLO-B. Demonstrate a coherent and systematic knowledge of the field of English literature and Bhasha literatures in English showing an understanding of current theoretical and literary developments in relation to the specific field of English studies.
PLO-C. Display an ability to read and understand various literary genres and stylistic variations and write critically

PLO-H. Channelize the interests of the students and analytical reasoning in a better way and make more meaningful choices regarding career after completion of graduate programme.
